TOYOTA COROLLA KE35 SR

This week we take a ride in Romain Saraiva’s firecracker red 1976 Toyota Corolla KE35 SR along the country roads just south of Paris.

“I grew up in the back of a Renault 5 and Mercedes 190,” Romain reminisces, “On the highway, I would play a game with my father and my kid brother. The goal was to guess the make of cars and trucks. My father would always win because of all the old cars. That’s where it all started.” What began as an innocent game to pass the time on family road trips became the seed for a lifetime of automotive love.

“I became interest[ed] in those cars,” Romain lovingly admits, “I am curious, and not knowing what make they were intrigued me.” In his younger years, Romain’s family acquired a sturdy Toyota Hilux—the seemingly immortal compact truck the world’s workforce has depended on for decades—and years later Romain’s grandfather is still driving the trusty Toyota hauler.


His granddad’s Toyota pickup-turned-farm-truck, a neighbor’s often-driven Datsun, and the Saraiva family’s Mazda MX-5 with a six-digit odometer tally all came together to capture Romain’s curiosity: “I found it so interesting. I came to realize that these cars had a story and a soul.”

When Romain eventually came of driving age, he was studying art in school and was after something special for his first car; something different, something with a soul. After discovering the unusual classic Toyota Corolla coupe in Portugal while on a family vacation, Romain kept an eye out for a similar sled once home back in France. Finally, he found a red and white Corolla KE35 SR for sale: “It reminded me of Starsky & Hutch, so I fell for it.”

But Romain’s lusting eyes were blinded from what lay beneath the shiny red paint. He quickly discovered that the car was somewhat shoddily thrown together—not to mention it had been wrecked and hastily repaired for a quick sale—but the Corolla’s charm captivated Romain all the same, and he decided to iron out the wrinkles and make his vehicle into the one he’d originally envisioned it could be.

“We spent a lot of time on it, taking it apart, changing parts, and redoing it. We wouldn’t give up,” says Romain, “I really wanted to create something for me and for my children too, like a heritage. Just like my father’s talents for mechanics, for everything he taught me and will continue to pass on to me.”

It was a lengthy process that required a lot of the family’s hands to help resurrect the humble Toyota coupe, but Romain was determined to bring it back from the brink. “It was a family adventure between a father and a son and the rest of the family who had to put up with a dismantled car for over two years, but [it] all ended well.” After seeing the rebuild photos and the finished project in action, we couldn’t agree more.

1981 TOYOTA COROLLA CUPE

Bildilla / Pål Leraand 8/6-17:  I går hentet jeg hjem en av prosjekt bilene mine. Denne bilen må få en overgang, får å se om den er vært å bygge opp.

Den har stått i MANGE år. Trolig mellom 12 og 15 år.

Men sånn på passe langt hold, så ser den jo fin ut   😉

Nå hadde jeg mine «beste» ungdomms år, på 80 tallet…  Kan hende jeg er preget av det da?  😉

Er litt svak for biler fra 70 og 80 tallet. Men slik er det jo med veldig mange av oss. Vi søker nostalgien fra da vi var unge…..

Bilen mangler bensintank og radiator +++  Bremsene er nok ikke helt som nye heller  🙁

Teknisk info: 1981 Toyota Corolla SR 1,6   TE71 med 2T-B motor.

 

 

Det blir spennende å grave seg litt ned i bilen å se. Kanskje kan den reddes  🙂

79 Toyota Celica Supra restaurering

Oppdatering Juli 2017:

Bilen er nå EU-ok, og jeg byttet nettopp luftfilter, oljefilter og plugger + justerte tenning.. Den fungerer nå ok. Men når jeg får mere tid, så må jeg prøve å finjustere ennå mer..

Bytter alle bremseskiver + klosser + Bremseslanger + overhalte bremser + nye fjærer fremme.

1990 Lexus ES250

Nok en spesiel bil er kommet på stallen. Dette er trolig Norges eneste 1 gen. Lexus ES. Bilen skal ha kommet til landet i 1993, som flytte gods fra USA.

Noen sier dette er bare en Toyota Camry, med pynt. Men det er langt mere en bare kosmetik!  Mer stoff og flere videoer og bilder kommer etter vært.

 

 

En enkel mobiltelefon-video!

Dette er første videoen av trolig Norges eneste første generasjon Lexus ES.

Det er en 1990 modell Lexus ES250. De var bygd på en Toyota Camry platform, og delte samme 2,5 V6 motor som datidens Camry V6er.

Men Lexus modelle fikk bedre finish, og en mykere kjørestil.
Lexus modellen fikk sammen med sin storerbror LS400, ekte treverk i interiøret.

ES250 kom med et oppgradert stereoanlegg og 6 høytalere.

Vi kommer tilbake med mer stoff rundt denne bilen senere, dette var bare en meget enkel video fra første gang jeg så den LIVE.

A simple cell phone video!

This is the first video of probably Norway’s only first-generation Lexus ES.

It is a 1990 model Lexus ES250. They were built on a Toyota Camry platform and shared the same 2.5 V6 engine that contemporary Camry V6er.

But Lexus models got better finish, and a softer style of driving.
Lexus model got together with his storerbror LS400, real wood in the interior.

ES250 came with an upgraded stereo and 6 speakers.

We return with more substance around this car later, this was just a very simple video from the first time I saw it LIVE.

1977 Mazda Cosmo 121

 

Noen ganger kommer mann over biler som må reddes fra høggeren. Dette er en 1977 Mazda Cosmo 121. Dette var ingen dusinvare i Norge da de var nye. Og hvor mange som har overlevd her på berget er vel ikke flere en at man kan telle de på en hånd?
Mann fikk samme karosseriet som Mazda RX5, med Wankel motor. Og de er nok ennå skjeldnere.
Bilen ble tatt ut av en garasje i Trondheim 25/6-14, og er nå flraktet til ny lagringsplass. Den skal ha stått i samme garasje i 20 år. Den skal ha endt opp der, etter at den hadde fått motor problemer.

Denne har hele livet vært registrert som 2 seters varebil.
Men det originale baksettet ligger i bilen og kan monteres om mann finner på og måtte ønske 5 setter.

Bilen er i god stand, og det er ikke mye rust sveising som kreves.

But the original rear seat is in the car and can be mounted on man finds and desire 5 sets.

The car is in good condition and there is not much rust welding required.
